Our Farm Story

Sixteen years ago in November we moved to our farm. Ten acres was more land than we’d ever had. We came with 2 kids, 2 Haflinger horses, 2 dogs, 2 cats and a little flock of chickens. It was a long winter with lots of snow and I spent many evenings curled up by the wood stove dreaming about big gardens and livestock. With a promise of hand knit socks, I convinced Toot we should get some sheep. In the spring we were on the road to southern Colorado to pick up our first three ewes. A ram (and a bunch of goats) followed. For several years we raised Navajo Churros and I learned how to spin, knit freehand baskets and felt. Over the years we had a variety of breeds, shetlands, BFL, CVM and currently, Finnsheep. Somewhere in there we spent a few years with alpacas and Angora goats. Each breed came with it’s own lessons. For many years we also raised dairy goats. Our first farm business was making goat milk soap and lotion. We’re phasing these out of our product list but Toot says she is going to continue to make soap for the family.

Meet the sheep, explore the fiber, learn the craft.

    Flock

We have been raising sheep for over 15 years. There have been many breeds but my favorite are the Finnsheep we are currently raising. They are friendly and and excellent mothers.

  • Fiber

We raise Finnsheep for their gorgeous fiber. We usually shear around the first part of April. After shearing I assess the fiber and decide what I am going to hand process in the coming year. As processing happens I will release hand spun yarn and hand procesed fiber and sometimes raw fleece. Hand processing is slow, thoughtful work that I love. It cannot be hurried and I spend the time thinking about the year is took that sheep to grow the fiber.

  • Craft

One of my deepest passions is sharing my knowledge and experience with fiber. I offer workshops, small group lessons and 1:1 studio time in fiber prep, spinning, weaving and botanical dyeing. Let’s get together and play!
