Over Blue - Overdyeing with Indigo on Wool and Silk

$110.00

A full-day indigo workshop

There is nothing quite like indigo. It is patient and demanding in equal measure. We’ll dip yarn it into the yellow-green bath, pull it out looking almost wrong, and then stand and watch the air do its work. The oxidation is slow, then sudden, then breathtaking.

In this full-day, hands-on workshop, we'll build and tend an indigo vat together, learning to read its color, its surface, and its mood. We'll dye on wool and silk — each fiber accepting indigo in its own way — and explore how multiple dips build depth and how an underdye changes everything.

Students joining us from The Understory workshop the day before will bring their botanically dyed yellows and reds to the vat and watch them shift into new territory - emerald, teal, violet. Students joining us for indigo only will receive a set of pre-dyed underdye skeins in yellow and red so the full color conversation is available to everyone.

We'll cover vat chemistry in plain language, how to maintain and troubleshoot a vat across a full day of dyeing, and safe and sustainable handling of indigo.

All levels welcome.

Supply fee: $20 for students coming from The Understory — bring your dyed skeins from Day 1.

Supply fee: $45 for stand-alone students — includes a 25-yard botanically pre-underdye bundle in yellow and red.

Supply fees are paid to the instructor at the workshop
