As a spinner, you've explored drop spindles, support spindles and the wheel. What's next ? Learning how to spin off a spindle, of course. Whether the spindle is found on a great wheel or a charka, the technique is essentially the same. In this workshop we will explore how to create yarn by having our fiber dance around a metal point. Student's will create yarn from a variety of preparations by using charkas to add the twist to the fiber. We will also discuss the variety of fiber preps we are spinning and look at both protein and cellulose sources.
This workshop is for intermediate spinners, who have experience spinning a variety of fibers and can spin a consistent yarn.
Charkas are available to use in class. If you have your own charka or can borrow one — or better yet, a great wheel — bring it along with all its bits and bobs. Simple fiber prep tools are welcome too: hand cards, combs, a flicker, or a pet brush.
Intermediate spinners — participants should have experience spinning a variety of fibers and be able to spin a consistent yarn.
Supply Fee: $25 to be paid to the instructor at the workshop
Saturday July 26 from 9:00am-12:00pm
